The new handheld console, the ROG Xbox Ally X, developed in partnership with ASUS and Microsoft, has undergone testing ahead of its official release in October. Initial results have been shared regarding the device’s performance and temperature values with the Ryzen Z2 Extreme APU.
ROG Xbox Ally X Undergoes Performance Tests
According to the tests, the ROG Xbox Ally X delivers remarkable results thanks to its next-generation APU. In Doom: The Dark Ages, the device achieves around 70 FPS with ray tracing and FSR enabled. During this time, the image quality is increased from 540p to 1080p with FSR, while the graphics settings are kept at medium and low settings.
In addition to performance, the power consumption and temperature figures are also among the highlights. Running at only 18W TDP, the system maintains a GPU temperature of 57°C even under 97% load. This result demonstrates the handheld’s highly efficient cooling system, despite its compact size.
According to information announced at Gamescom 2025, the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X models will be released on October 16th. The ROG Xbox Ally is expected to retail for €599, while the higher-end ROG Xbox Ally X is expected to retail for €899. The handheld console market is poised to compete in a competitive environment with strong competitors like Steam Deck and Lenovo Legion Go.
This new ASUS model strengthens its market position with both its performance and cooling system. This will provide gamers with more options and intensify competition between manufacturers.
